Many research organizations, including National Adolescent Health Information Center and Research-Gate have shown that violent behavior- homicide, suicide, injuries and substance use- peak during the adult years.1 According to research, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for young adults. Other forms of injuries are drowning, fire and burns, poisoning and falls.2 Research indicates that homicide is the second leading cause of death for young adults. Young adult males have higher homicide rates than females. Homicide rates peak in young adulthood and then decrease throughout their lifespan.3 Research also shows that suicide accounts for 11.2% of all death for young adults, making it the third leading cause of death for this age group.4 Research data has also shown that the rate of substance use increases for young adults for all racial and ethnic groups. And that substance dependence or abuse is higher for young adult males than female peers.5

Fundamentally, the violent and wicked behavior seen in young adults result from the broken relationship between mankind and his Creator. As the Word of God puts it, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind and to a vile affection to do those things which are not convenient”6. Thus, the rate of inclination of young adults toward vile affection and wicked actions in our neighborhoods and communities is not an indication of a normal social change, but a fulfilment of the Creator’s prediction that “in the last days, perilous times shall come. For men and women, including young adults shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, brutal, despisers of those that are good, traitors, haughty, reckless, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof, fornicators, adulterers, murders, unforgiving, unmerciful, women who change the natural use into that which is against nature, likewise the men, leaving the natural use of the women, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working that which is unseemly, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth”7. However, there is a good news. Wholesome Life Transformation is fundamentally positioned to help the young adults experience a wholesome life transformation centered on God’s love, peace, forgiveness, compassion, healing and a healthy lifestyle.
